The beautiful mould

It’s fair to say that fungi don’t enjoy the same popularity as a cuddly koala but that does not mean that they are any less interesting.

Neither plant nor animal they have their own kingdom and are vital in maintaining the balance and health of ecosystems.

Fungi are often associated with decay but they play a key role in breaking down organic matter like fallen leaves and returning nutrients to the soil. Put simply, plants produce, animals consume but fungi recycle.

Furthermore, they form symbiotic relationships with plants whereby nutrients are exchanged with root systems that assist in plant growth and health.

Deep Creek National Park is blessed with an extraordinary array of different fungi especially from May through to early July.

For our tours departing on 13 May11 June & 8 July 2024 we are offering a 20% discount off our standard tariff. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the fungi in bloom and experience this wonderful walk at a greatly reduced price!
